International success for Gary Hurley

Representing Ireland in the Boys’ Home International at Southerness Golf Club August 3 – 5th, Gary Hurley proved to be instrumental in Ireland’s emphatic win.

Playing over three days on this testing links course Gary remained undefeated in his six matches in the singles and foursomes competitions.  To those of us who know Gary this comes as no surprise when one considers the amount of work he has put into his game over the past couple of years having represented his club, province and country at the highest level.  His next challenge will be the British Boys Amateur Championship at Kilmarnock (Brassie) which takes place from 10 – 15 August.  252 players from 20 countries will compete over two rounds of 18 holes with the 64 lowest scores competing in the Matchplay stage of the Championship. As if his diary was not already crowded Gary is scheduled to play for West Waterford in the Munster semi final of the Senior Cup at Castletroy on Sunday next.  The question remains will it be Kilmarnock or Castletroy On 15th August, but what is certain is that all at West Waterford will be cheering for Gary whatever the venue.

Senior Cup

Under the expert guidance of manager John Carroll our senior cup team continue their defense of the Munster title when they face Limerick GC in the semi final at Castletroy on Sunday next.  John and his team are under no illusion as to the enormity of the task they face on this occasion, but having come within a whisker of an all Ireland title last year they will relish the opportunity of another major challenge.  The loyal band of supporters who follow the team are already making plans for the weekend, and I understand some are even sacrificing the trip to Croke Park in order to cheer on our team.  First tee-off is 8.30 on Sunday morning and with our boys performing to their full potential we may very well be cheering them on to another Munster title in the afternoon.
