Gary Hurley

Competing in the Australian Mens Amateur Golf Championship our own Gary Hurley has done himself proud finishing 30th overall in a world class field of amateur golfers. Gary lost out in the second round to Germany’s Marcel Schneider who eventually went on to become the outright winner of the competition. Gary will now move on to the Lake Macquarie Amateur Championship which takes place at Belmont Golf Club in Sydney and involves four rounds of stroke-play from 326th top 29th January. Well done Gary, we are watching your progress.

Comeragh Oil Winter League 2012

On Sunday last Round 2 of our winter league finished as it started in brilliant sunshine.  Once again all captains got their teams out with many availing of the re entry system in a bid to boost thei team’s scores.  On the team leaderboard Noel Conway nudged Richie Hurley from top spot with a lot of reshuffling going on right through the team leaderboard.  On the bottom end all six teams are putting in a mighty effort to avoid relegation and with the transfer window now closed we are sure to see some more positional changes following round 3.  Round 3 will run from Monday 23rd January to Sunday 29th january and pending favourable weather conditions it is envisaged to have this round complete within one week.  It is vital that all tee times are booked on the BRS system as we anticipate a very busy timesheet throughout the week and the weekend.

Team positions after round 2: Team E – 294, Team S – 287, Team D – 284, Team B– 283, Team M – 281, Team L – 281, Team C – 281, Team Z – 279, Team U – 277, Team H – 275, Team Y – 274, Team P – 271, Team K – 271, Team R – 271, Team X – 268, Team G – 266, Team F – 266, Team J – 265, Team N – 263, Team A – 262, Team W – 261, Team T – 261, Team V – 260.

Care of the Greens

We are delighted to see so many members using the course every day of the week.  Unfortunately some are still ignoring pitch marks on the greens.  Our course staff are making a special effort to keep the course in its present excellent condition.  You can help by repairing not only your own but other pitch marks you may find on the greens.  Thanks to the generosity and work of a number of volunteers you will notice a series of improvements to the course.  Additional improvements are planned in the near future.    Everyone can contribute by treating the course with respect and fixing the little things that can make a big difference.

West Waterford Challenge Cup update

Old Parish man Eamonn Power has set the pace in the 1012 challange Cup. Eamonn had back to back birdies on the 10th and 11th hole to set an  unreal score of 33pts for 13 holes and he looks a hot favourite for the final in March.Tied for second on 28pts are Mark Crotty, Vinny Coonan and Billy O Mahony. Another Old Parish great Declan french ties 3rd position with last years winner Tommy Pratt ( Lismore soccer). Talent this year has upped the level so Tommy to defend his title may need to invest in a physico and Fitness trainer!
