Gary Hurley third after Day 1 of the New South Wales Medal Championship.
Gary Hurley fired a one-under 70 in difficult conditions at Long Reef GC to be in a tie for third place after Round 1 of the New South Wales Medal Championship.
Hurley is three behind England's Neil Raymond, who leads after an opening 67, with US College player Patrick Wilson one behind.
Irish players Reeve Whitson and Niall Gorey had the misfortune of playing each other's ball as they played adjacent holes, but although the pair incurred two-stroke penalties for their mistake, they shot respective rounds of 72 and 74.
Dermot McElroy also lies within the cut after an opening 76.
