Power earns A-Sun Golfer of Month honor
Power, the medalist at the 2007 A-Sun Championship, opened the 2010 Championship by shooting a 3-under-par, 69 to share the first-round lead with teammate Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England). After a 2-over-par, 74 in the second round, the senior from Waterford, Ireland rallied with a third-round 5-under-par, 67 to claim a three-stroke victory. Power’s effort helped ETSU fend off FGCU to claim its second team title.
Power, an accounting major, became the fifth player in the 32-year history of the championship to earn medalist honors twice, joining 1983 PGA Championship winner Hal Sutton (Centenary // 1979-80), Southeastern Louisiana’s Oliver Thomson (1992, 1994), Troy’s Josh Broadaway (1999, 2000) and Jacksonville’s Duncan Stewart (2005-06). Power won as a freshman in 2007, starting a four-year run of Buccaneers winning the individual crown. After Power, Gareth Shaw won at the A-Sun Championship in 2008 and Michael Stewart won a season ago.
The Buccaneers and Power continue their 2010 season in NCAA Regional play. They will learn where they will play during Monday’s NCAA Selection show.
